About Rossmore Playgroup
Rossmore Playgroup is a long-established pre-school playgroup for children aged three to five years. The playgroup is based in a spacious facility at the Scouts' Den in Templeogue. The premises is conveniently located beside Bishop Shanahan National School and is close to St. Jude's Church and Orwell Shopping Centre.
Studies have shown the first five years of a child's life are the most important in terms of general development and socialisation. Rossmore Playgroup is focused on providing a safe and comfortable environment for children to progress through this development. Children interact with other children in a relaxed environment that prepares them for starting primary school.
Our playgroup promotes self awareness and the children develop respect for themselves and for others. They learn to think for themselves through making decisions during free-play on what activity to get involved in. They become more independent during the time they spend in playgroup, learning to manage their lunches, to put on their own coats and over the course of the year, to be able to use the bathroom on their own. They also learn to wait and to take their turn.
Each child's self esteem is built by being listened to and encouraged. The shy and quiet child is encouraged but not forced to take part in circle time and over the course of the year they gain the confidence to join in. This confidence grows with positive reinforcement and each individual child's social skills are nurtured.
Our goal is to help the children develop a positive attitude towards reading and numeracy. This is achieved through mediums of music, painting, drawing, playdough and stories, all of these activities also develop language skills. Their maths skills are nurtured by various counting games and activities during each day.
The children's creativity is encouraged with arts and crafts. They also enjoy a weekly music class with a professional music teacher. The emphasis is on rhythm, songs and movement. They learn to experience musical instruments and to recognise some composers.
The playgroup offers children a range of play activities including art, singing, playdough, role-play etc. A typical day involves unstructured play with a range of different toys, and structured activities such as art, story-time, games etc. Each Christmas the children perform a concert. Children's birthdays are celebrated during the year, and an end of year celebration including a bouncing castle is provided for the children.
Part-time places are available.
